U.S. exchange-traded funds brought in $28.8 billion during the month of January, leading to a 200 percent increase from the same year-earlier month, thanks to the revival of emerging market ETFs and surging tech sector ETFs, according to an article in the Financial Times.

For example, after emerging markets ETFs together suffered outflows of $2.4 billion in 2011, the Vanguard MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSEArca: VWO) and the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSEArca: EEM) brought in $3.2 and $1.3 billion last month, respectively, according to the article.

Also, the top three ETF providers—iShares, SSgA and Vanguard—together contributed to over 76.6 percent of total inflows in January, the FT said.
