Coal ETF Near Yearly Low As ANR Idles Kentucky Mines

The Market Vectors Coal ETF (NYSEArca: KOL) continued to drop during Friday’s trading session, shedding 1.1 percent after Alpha Natural Resources said it was cutting production at its Kentucky-based mines, according to a blog post on Barrons. ANR is set to close four mines and limit output on the rest. The announcement pushed KOL to within 1 percent of its 52-week low, which was set last Monday, and has caused other players in the coal sector to suffer as well, the article said.
