NYSE Euronext Adopts FTSE’s ICB
In late March, FTSE Group said that NYSE Euronext had formally adopted its sector classification system.

The Industry Classification Benchmark will be used by NYSE Euronext’s exchanges in Europe and the U.S., the press release said. NYSE Euronext was already using the ICB, but the new agreement is the first to be signed since FTSE bought out its ICB partner, Dow Jones Indexes.

The ICB covers 75,000 securities from around the world, sorting them into 10 industry groups, 19 “supersectors,” 41 sectors and 114 subsectors. It was originally jointly developed by FTSE and Dow Jones Indexes, with FTSE only gaining full ownership of the ICB in June 2011.
