And The Winner Is…

IndexUniverse.com and IMN handed out the 2006 William F. Sharpe Indexing Achievement Awards on December 5, 2006, at the Superbowl of Indexing in Phoenix. The awards honor the most outstanding and innovative achievements in the field of indexing and index-related research.

 

The group handed out two Lifetime Achievement awards:

  • Dr. Burton G. Malkiel, longtime Princeton professor and author of the widely read investment book, A Random Walk Down Wall Street.
  • Ronald J. Ryan, CEO and founder of Ryan ALM Inc., and creator of the first fixed-income indexes.

The categories and award winners for this year's voted awards were:

  • Most Innovative Benchmark Index: Standard and Poor's Case-Shiller House Prices Indices
  • Most Innovative Index Fund or ETF: PowerShares DB Commodity Index Tracking Fund (AMEX: DBC) and PowerShares G10 Currency Harvest Fund (AMEX: DBV)
  • Most Innovative Index Derivative Product: Chicago Board Options Exchange VIX Options
  • Best Index-Related Research Paper: "The Value Premium and the CAPM," Eugene F. Fama and Kenneth R. French, The Journal of Finance, Vol. LXI, No. 5, October 2006
