ETF Fund Flows: GLD Adds $553.6 Million

Investors plowed $553.6 million into the SPDR Gold ETF (NYSEArca: GLD), making it the No. 1 ETF on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Creations” list and helping propel U.S.-listed ETF assets to a record. Net flows totaled $1.29 billion and total assets under management rose to $1.152 trillion, breaking the previous record of $1.150 trillion, set on Thursday, Jan. 26. Stocks finished mostly lower, but an upswing in financial shares helped the S&P 500 preserve its fourth week of gains. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 74.17 points, or .0.58 percent, to close at 12,660.46, capping the first week that the Dow closed at a loss. Stocks were down on news from the U.S. Commerce Department saying that while growth in the fourth quarter was fastest in the past 18 months, it was still less than economists expected. The S&P 500 was down 2.10 points, or 0.16 percent, to close at 1,316.33. The SPDR S&P Mid Cap 400 ETF (NYSEArca: MDY) had inflows of $210.6 million, making it the No. 2 fund on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10” Creations list. The No. 3 fund on the list was the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index Fund (NYSEArca: EEM). It pulled in $207.8 million. Bonds had a strong day on Friday, with U.S.-focused fixed-income ETFs gathering $422.5 million. Redemptions The SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEArca: SPY) had outflows of $928.2 million, making it the No. 1 ETF on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10” redemptions list. The No. 2 fund on the redemptions list was the PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish Fund (NYSEArca: UUP), which had outflows of $132.1 million. The No. 3 fund on the list was the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca: XLF), which had outflows of $61.47 million. Top 10 Creations (All ETFs)
