ETF Fund Flows: SPY Bleeds $2.28 Billion

Investors pulled $2. 28 billion from the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEArca: SPY), making it No. 1 on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Redemptions” list. Despite SPY’s outflows, stocks rose on better- than-expected corporate earnings. Net outflows totaled $1.78 billion. However, due to the market’s rise, total assets under management rose to a near record of $1.184 trillion, from $1.182 trillion on Thursday, Feb. 16, according to data compiled by IndexUniverse. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 45.79 points to close at 12,949.87. Ongoing progress on Greece’s debt deal and an improved corporate outlook in the United States helped drive stocks higher. The S&P 500 rose 3.19 points, or 0.23 percent, to close at 1,361.23. The No. 2 fund on IndexUniverse’s redemptions list was the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (NYSEArca: IWM) which had outflows of $839.9 million. The No. 3 fund on the list was the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average Trust (NYSEArca: DIA), which had outflows of $200.3 million. Creations The No. 1 fund on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Creations” list was the PowerShares QQQ Trust (NasdaqGM: QQQ), which had inflows of $203.0 million. The No. 2 fund on the creations list was the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca: XLF), which had inflows of $193.8 million. The No. 3 fund on the list was the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca: XLE), which had inflows of $145.9 million.
