July 08, 2010
|
Some of the most popular U.S. equity ETFs topped IndexUniverse.com’s list of creations on Wednesday, as some of the fear gripping financial markets relented. The iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSEArca: IWM) was at the top of the creations list, with $455.5 million in new money, while Vanguard’s MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSEArca: VWO) and iShares’ MSCI Emerging Markets Index Fund (NYSEArca: EEM) were in the second and third slots. The two emerging markets ETFs added about $198 million and $174 million, respectively. Redemptions were led by another equity fund, State Street Global Advisors’ S&P 500 ETF (NYSEArca: SPY), which lost $737 million in assets. It’s the biggest ETF in the world, with more than $64 billion in assets, and is widely used by short-term traders. Total assets in U.S. ETFs totaled about $790 billion.
