NEW LISTINGS
BGI Rolls Out Target Date, Asset Allocation and Fixed-Income Funds
Last Friday, Barclays Global Investors launched a series of target date ETFs, and two more fixed-income portfolios on the NYSE Arca, the iShares S&P Short Term National Municipal Bond Fund (NYSEArca: SUB) and the iShares Barclays Agency Bond Fund (NYSE Arca: AGZ).
Target date funds have been the fastest-growing part of the mutual fund world. Now however, a number of ETF managers are launching target date funds and preparing to take a bigger chunk of that market away from traditional fund managers. The iShares Asset Allocation Exchange-Traded Funds are based on the new S&P Target Date and Target Risk Indexes, and the group includes eight traditional target date funds and four risk-based portfolio models.
The target date funds include the following:
- iShares S&P Target Date Retirement Income Index Fund (TGR)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2010 Index Fund (TZD)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2015 Index Fund (TZE)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2020 Index Fund (TZG)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2025 Index Fund (TZI)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2030 Index Fund (TZL)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2035 Index Fund (TZO)
- iShares S&P Target Date 2040 Index Fund (TZV)
TZV charges an expense ratio of 0.29%, while TZO, TZL and TZI charge 0.30%. The remaining four target date ETFs charge 0.31%.
The risk-based portfolio ETFs include the following four funds:
- iShares S&P Conservative Allocation Fund (AOK)
- iShares S&P Moderate Allocation Fund (AOM)
- iShares S&P Growth Allocation Fund (AOR)
- iShares S&P Aggressive Allocation Fund (AOA)
The funds charge 0.31%, 0.32%, 0.33% and 0.34% respectively.
Assets in target date funds reached $184 billion at the end of 2007, according to Financial Research Corp. data, an annual growth rate of 70%. In 2000, there were 23 target date funds, and now there are more than 300, according to Lipper. XShares and TD Ameritrade launched the only other target date ETF family last year.
The iShares S&P Short Term National Municipal Bond Fund (NYSEArca: SUB) and the iShares Barclays Agency Bond Fund (NYSE Arca: AGZ) were also launched at the same time as the target date funds. SUB will compete with three other existing short-term muni funds, while AGZ, which tracks the Barclays Capital U.S. Agency Index, is the first ETF to specifically target agencies. SUB carries an expense ratio of 0.25%, while AGZ charges 0.20%.

RevenueShares Begins Sector Push
RevenueShares, the firm that has brought you revenue-weighted versions of all your favorite ETFs, launched its first sector fund on Wednesday. The RevenueShares Financials Sector ETF (NYSEArca: RWW) tracks a revenue-weighted version of the S&P 500 Financials Index.
The firm has filed to launch ETFs based on revenue-weighted versions of all the S&P 500 sectors, and Energy and Technology are scheduled to be next.
RWW charges a net expense ratio of 0.49%.

NEW FILINGS
Global X Adds Emerging Markets Filings
Would-be ETF provider Global X has filed for ETFs covering five emerging markets: Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, Peru and the Philippines.
Very little information is available on the funds—there is no index provider mentioned, and there is no indication of what the fees will be. The filing simply describes the underlying indexes as float-adjusted, cap-weighted, broad market indexes.
Although there are currently no ETFs tracking these markets, Barclays Global Investors has filed to create a Peru ETF, and several funds exist that offer exposure to the mentioned countries.
