Pimco Rolls Out Second ETF

Pimco launched its second exchange-traded fund, with the debut of the Pimco 1-5 Year U.S. TIPS Index Fund (NYSEArca: STPZ). STPZ is the first ETF to focus on the short-term TIPS marketplace. Studies show that short-term TIPS have higher correlations to inflation than broad-market TIPS, such as those captured by the popular iShares Barclays TIPS Bond Fund (NYSEArca: TIP).

BGI To Cap Shares Of GSG

Barclays Global Investors said that it would cap the issuance of new shares of its iShares S&P GSCI Commodity Indexed Trust (NYSEArca: GSG), a popular ETF that invests in a broad basket of commodity futures. GSG is the fourth ETF to put a cap on the number of shares it issues. ETF companies are worried that the CFTC will put harsh limits on the size of futures positions that commodity ETFs can hold.

Fidelity Says, ‘No New ETFs’

A Fidelity spokesman told Investment News that the firm has “no current plans to expand proprietary ETFs.” Many have been expecting the company, which has one ETF on the market, to make a bigger move into the space, in light of the ongoing growth of the ETF market and recent news that arch-competitor Charles Schwab will soon be launching its own funds.
