[P&I] Indexes Steal Market Share

Recovering markets and growing interest in passive management translated into significant growth for index-based assets in the first half of 2009, according to a new survey from Pensions & Investments.  

Overall index assets rose 11 percent to $4.67 trillion, driven by surging interest in credit strategies and international equities. For comparison, the Russell 3000 index rose just 4.2 percent over the same time frame, while the MSCI EAFE index advanced 8.4 percent, suggesting significant market share gains for index strategies.
